December 10: The Weary World Rejoices

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6-7 NIV

I will never forget this profound truth my Dad, who served in the U.S. Air Force during WWII, taught me growing up in the 50s during the Cold War. Throughout history there have always been wars and rumors of war. I learned I must know Jesus, the True Prince of Peace, by receiving Him as my personal Savior and by being filled with His Spirit to know true peace in my heart. Jesus told us His peace gives us not as the world gives us. Don’t let your heart be troubled or afraid.

True peace is not merely the absence of conflict. It is taking action to restore a broken situation. That is exactly what God did when he sent his only Son Jesus to be our Prince of Peace. He gave His promise of peace a face on that most Holy Night. “For God who commanded the light to shine in our hearts to give us the light to know God’s glory in the face of Jesus.” 2 Corinthians 4:6

My Dad was right; we can know God’s glory and peace in our hearts now and one day see our Prince of Peace face-to-face in all of His glory for eternity.

Dear Lord Jesus, Please help us to “Be anxious for nothing but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let our request be known to God and the peace that surpasses all understanding will guard our hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6-7). Thank you Lord for being our Prince of Peace. In Jesus Loving Name we pray. Amen.
