But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
Isaiah 40:30 NIV
This is my God story – a story of His peace, His love, and my hope. My hope was in the Lord during a long difficult journey of recovery and rehabilitation after a near-fatal car accident. On a dark, foggy September morning when I pulled out of my subdivision, I did not see the truck that hit me broad side. I was dead at the scene. God sent a paramedic to witness the accident. She stopped, administered CPR, and brought me back to life. After I was placed in the ambulance, I again died and was resuscitated back to life twice. Arriving at the UT trauma center I was in a coma and placed on life support. My family was told I might not make it through the night. As they prayed, God was at work with His mighty miracles.
The most glorious miracle occurred while I was in the coma. Suddenly I was aware that I was being held by strong arms. It was Jesus holding me in His arms. God’s presence was my next awareness. He spoke to me, “Jean, everything will be alright,” words which filled me with an unexplainable, overwhelming feeling of peace. It was the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. I never wanted to leave here. As I gradually awakened from my coma, I vividly remembered God’s words to me, words which stayed with me throughout my recovery. I never questioned God about why this happened because I knew He would be with me. Due to the traumatic brain injury and coma, my family was told I would be severely cognitively impaired. They prayed. I’m not. They were told I would never walk again. They prayed. I did walk again after many grueling months of PT. I have come to know that God is in complete control. We are totally dependent upon Him. He is always with us and does miracles on our behalf. He hears our prayers and answers them.
Praise God! He gives us great hope!
