Psalm 78:4 – We will not hide these truths from our children but will tell the next generation about the glorious deeds of the Lord. We will tell of His power and the mighty miracles he did.
This is the final blog in a 3 part series on multi-generational worship at Central Bearden. In Part 1, we looked at what Central Bearden means by multi-generational worship, its related scripture, and why it is important for our faith community at this time in the church’s life. In Part 2, we examined some of the differences between multi-generational worship and what we have called, age/affinity-targeted worship (worship focused only upon a particular age or musical style). And, we celebrated the importance of COMING TOGETHER in worship. If you missed any of those posts, you might wish to go back and look at those.
I recently had a conversation with someone about this blog series. I could sense they were concerned there might be some trouble or disagreement over what happens in worship with Central Bearden. I assured the person that this blog series does not come out of any worries about worship or style, but is simply meant to encourage and inspire all of us to know the value of worshiping together as a church, together in community. That is a blessing we can all celebrate each week!
After worshiping with Central Bearden for a year now, I want to thank you for not only your encouragement, but your openness to singing “psalms, hymns and spiritual songs” (Eph. 5:19) exuberantly in worship. And new songs? You are GOOD to pick those up quickly! There is joy in seeing worshipers respond to scripture and spoken word. It brings a smile to see young and old, brothers and sisters, friends and neighbors, together in worship, proclaiming the name of Jesus, exalting God for who he is, and recognizing the power of Holy Spirit among us! Thank you for seeing the value of a choir, a worship team and band, wind instruments, stringed instruments, pipe organ and other keyboards, alongside visual, drama/dance, and technical arts. You were uniquely created by God, coming to this place and this church community to offer Him worship. Thank you for being open to unique and meaningful expressions, and not putting the creative nature of God in a box. Let’s open the lid! Pour out our praise! Be challenged by the life of Jesus! Lift our prayers and songs to the Lord…. because HE ALONE IS WORTHY!
